Essayist sees new Vatican drive to enforce Ex Corde Ecclesiae
Catholic World News - August 24, 2012
Anne Hendershott argues in First Things that the Vatican’s decision to strip the “Catholic” designation from a Peruvian university signals a new seriousness about expecting Catholic institutions to conform to the terms of Ex Corde Ecclesiae.
In that light, Hendershott suggests that the canonical lawsuit brought against Georgetown University by author William Blatty (of The Exorcist fame) could be worth watching carefully. Blatty argues that Georgetown, too, should be deprived of the right to describe itself as a Catholic institution.
