Philadelphia archdiocese removes 2 more priests
CWN - May 21, 2012
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia, which announced the removal of 5 priests from ministry earlier this month, has now declared 2 other priests unfit for pastoral duty.
The 2 priests, Msgr. George Mazzotta and Msgr. Hugh Campbell, have been removed from ministry after the archdiocese determined that there was substantial evidence that they had been guilty of sexual abuse.
Last year the archdiocese suspended 26 priests from active ministry following a grand-jury report that criticized Church officials for failing to take appropriate action on sex-abuse complaints. The archdiocese is now nearing the conclusion of new investigation into the complaints against these 26 priests. To date 7 have been found unsuitable of ministry while 3 have been cleared of charges.
