Internal disputes escalate in Pontifical Academy for Life

CWN - May 10, 2012

An official of the Pontifical Academy for Life has fired back at the group’s critics, charging that “those people” have stymied the work of the dicastery by complaining about conferences that have included opponents of Church teachings on life issues.

Speaking to the Vatican Insider, the Vatican official said that pro-life critics “go behind people’s backs” and use the media to advance their arguments, rather than engaging in dialogue with their colleagues on the Pontifical Academy. However the source undermined the force of his own argument by making these complaints anonymously.

The Pontifical Academy for Life has seen sharp divisions among its members on the handling of issues including abortion, embryo research, assisted reproduction, and brain death.
