Pope recalls beatification of John Paul II, one year later

May 02, 2012

At his regular public audience on May 2, Pope Benedict XVI recalled the beatification of his predecessor, Blessed John Paul II, one year earlier.

Acknowledging a group of Polish pilgrims in the crowd that had gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the weekly audience, the Pope invoked the intercession of John Paul II upon their homeland, and prayed: “May the witness of his life, his teaching and his love for the homeland remain your particular heritage.”

Pope Benedict presided at the beatification of his predecessor on May 1, 2011, with an estimated 1.5 million people in attendance.
