At least 1,000 missionaries slain since 1980

At least 1,000 Catholic missionaries and pastoral workers were killed between 1980 and 2011, according to the news agency of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
At least 115 were killed in the 1980s, 604 in the 1990s (248 of them in the Rwandan Genocide), and 281 since 2000.
