300,000-plus sign pro-life petition to UN
December 10, 2008
Pro-family groups from around the world have presented UN officials with a petition signed by hundreds of thousands of people, urging the international body to interpret the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as protection for unborn children. The petition also calls for protection for the traditional family and marriage. The Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, which organized the petition drive, reported delivery of petitions carrying 330,000 signatures, collected in barely two months. The signature-collecting drive was a deliberate effort to highlight the lack of support for pro-abortion groups which had amassed only a few thousand signatures in their own heavily publicized campaign. A European pro-family coalition, Familiokratosen, claimed the support of over 5 million families for the effort.
