Chile: bishop, religious urge government not to suppress protestors
March 16, 2012
The Confederation of Religious in Chile has joined Bishop Luigi Infanti della Mora in urging the government not to suppress protestors in the southern region of Aysén. The protestors are demanding increased regional autonomy and improved government services.
“We denounce any kind of violent action against the citizens, any denial of the exercise of peaceful dialogue,” the religious said in their statement. “We are opposed to any enforcement of laws (anti-terrorism, national security, for example) that have nothing to do with these problems .”
