Student union at London university says pro-life groups must invite pro-abortion speakers
March 01, 2012
The student union at University College London has passed a resolution requiring pro-life groups to include pro-abortion speakers in any public forum on the issue.
In a series of votes, the student union formally declared itself as “pro-choice,” and declared that any organizations inviting pro-life speakers to campus must balance the discussion by including an advocate of abortion and an independent chairman to supervise the discussion. A separate resolution required pro-life groups to inform the student union in advance of any meetings, so that advocates of legal abortion could attend and dispute any pro-life arguments.
The student union’s resolutions may be legally unenforceable, and could be challenged as a clear infringement on academic freedom and freedom of speech.
