Liberal nuns file brief in support of Obama health-care plan

A group of liberal Catholic nuns has filed in amicus brief with the US Supreme Court in defense of the Obama administration’s health-care program.
In their legal brief, the nun says that they are speaking out because women religious in the US have founded and administered many health-care facilities. They say that they “have seen the devastating impact of the lack of affordable health insurance and healthcare on women, children, and other vulnerable members of society.”
The women religious participating in the amicus filing include Sister Patricia Farrell, OSF, the president of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious; Sister Simone Campbell, the executive director of Network; and representatives of 20 other religious communities.

This is the reason that I have never supported the annual collection for the retirement fund for religious. I don't want to risk having my money go to these crackpot liberal congregations that cannot fade away fast enough. Rather, I support individual congregations that are faithful to the Church.

My U.S. senator responded to my letter, saying that the Obama compromise was endorsed by the Catholic Health Association -- so he is satisfied that the Catholic consciences have been saved. He hasn't yet responded to my rebuttal, but you can certainly see how my Protestant senator has a basis for his vote.

When are the bishops going to deal with these dissenting religious? How can they condemn at least several parts of the Health-Care Law and tolerate the direct opposition from religious who have taken vows of obedience? These groups and individuals are giving more scandal to the secular community and the few remaining faithful. Someone has to stand up to them.

Who is their superior? If she doesn't discipline these nuns, maybe the bishop can. This is a political matter, the bishops have stated the church's position, and the action the nuns are taking flies in the face of what the church is trying to do. Sanctions must apply and quickly.
