Liberal Catholics threaten to undo US role in advancing idea of religious freedom

Thanks in large part to the pivotal work of Father John Courtney Murray, SJ, American Catholics have had a crucial influence in developing the proper understanding of religious liberty, notes George Weigel. But now, liberal Catholics in the US threaten to undo decades of progress on that front by backing the notion that religious freedom applies to worship alone, and religious beliefs have no place in the public square.
