Study shows adult stem cells repair heart-attack damage

Medical researchers in California have successfully used adult stem cells to repair heart tissues damaged by heart attacks.
Doctors at Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute treated patients who had suffered heart attacks with stem cells derived from their own heart tissue. In a small sample of 25 patients, the treatment led to improved health in the heart muscles, and even repaired scars that were thought to represent permanent damage.
The results of the California test, published in the medical journal Lancet, add to the list of promising results from the use of stem cells taken from adult tissue.
