Vatican newspaper decries court ruling against Proposition 8
CWN - February 09, 2012
The Vatican newspaper has called attention to a US federal court ruling that Proposition 8, which would bar homosexual marriages in California, is unconstitutional. That ruling is “another attack on marriage,” said the headline in L’Osservatore Romano.
In a mostly straightforward account of the California ruling, L’Osservatore quoted the statement by the US bishops’ conference: “The people of California deserve better. Our nation deserves better. Marriage deserves better.”
The Vatican newspaper noted that the ruling by the 9th Circuit will likely be appealed to the US Supreme Court.
