Obama mandate inverts Jefferson's notion of religious freedom, says columnist

Francis Beckwith argues that the Obama administration's mandate for contraceptive coverage betrays a radical approach to religious freedom, and one fundamentally at odds with the original American understanding:

The new anti-Catholicism not only rejects the Jeffersonian principle; it turns it on its head. Rather than demanding that the Catholic Church leave him alone, as the old anti-Catholic preached, the new anti-Catholic will not leave the Catholic Church alone.
