English bishops to distribute 1 million ‘faith cards’

February 03, 2012

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales has printed one million “faith cards” for distribution to the faithful.

“It’s an idea that we had to remind people that they are Catholic,” said Bishop Kieran Conry of Arundel and Brighton.”

The front of the card reads, “As a Catholic, I am called to share with others the joy of knowing Jesus Christ, pray, celebrate the sacraments regularly, love my neighbour as myself, use the gifts I’ve been given wisely, forgive as I have been forgiven. In the event of an emergency please contact a Catholic priest.”

The back of the card includes an adapted quote from Blessed John Henry Newman. “God has created me to do Him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission. I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. I shall do good and be a preacher of truth in my own place.”

A tri-fold pamphlet "The Beauty of the Catholic Faith" is also useful for evangelization. It is published with Ecclesiastical Approval and may be downloaded from https://sites.google.com/site/facincplus/religious-articles?pli=1 A second free download is also available from this site.

Where can I get a stack for me and my family? What a perfect reminder to have in our pockets while we face the trials ahead of us.

It is good that the bishops recognize that Catholics of today lack visible, tactile reminders that they are indeed chosen and blessed by the Faith. The quote from Cdl. Newman is good as well. But may I suggest a return to Friday abstinence? My life as a Catholic has greatly improved since I returned to (fishsticks) and to the Latin Mass. When people call you a revert pay no attention and smile.
