Leading Southern Baptist backs bishops on contraception mandate

February 01, 2012

The president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary says that he supports the United States bishops’ opposition to the Obama administration’s contraception-coverage mandate.

“You at least have to admire the courage of the Roman Catholic bishops in saying they are willing to go to jail rather than to comply with this,” he said Albert Mohler. “How many evangelical presidents and pastors and leaders will be willing to do the same? We’re going to find out in the coming months.”

Noting that some of the contraceptives covered by the mandate are abortifacients, he said that the mandate will “violate our own consciences.”

“Our religious liberty is being similarly subverted and attacked,” he said. “Everyone who stands both for the sanctity of human life and for the mandate of religious liberty must express outrage in whatever form is available to us to the president of the United States.”

How right you are, Dr. Mohler! The Obama Administration will find a way to back you against the wall after they finish with us.
