Cardinal rues drug abuse, crimes of passion
CWN - January 04, 2012
Speaking at a New Year’s Day press conference, one of the Caribbean’s leading prelates called for peaceful May elections and lamented the rise of the drug culture in the Dominican Republic.
“The country is … becoming a reference point, both from South America and from Puerto Rico, for the distribution and transport of drugs,” said Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez of Santo Domingo.
Referring to murders of women by men--including wives by husbands--the prelate added that “they are crimes that occur mainly for reasons of passion, but when a man and a woman cannot live together, then it is time to separate.”
