Jesus was born into family life, Pope reminds Spanish faithful
CWN - January 02, 2012
The feast of the Holy Family should be recognized as “a continuation of Christmas,” Pope Benedict XVI said in a message to Spanish families.
The papal message, addressed to Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco Varela of Madrid, was read to the congregation during a special Mass for families on December 31. In the message, the Pope pointed out that Jesus was born into a family, and raised “in that place where human beings are most disposed to want the best for others.”
“The family is, so to speak, the door by which the Savior of humankind entered the world,” the Pope concluded. That fact highlights the great dignity of family life, he said, and the faithful should do their best to defend and promote the family, “so vital for society and the Church.”
