Irish network suspends program that libeled priest
CWN - November 23, 2011
The Irish television network RTE has suspended an investigative program that wrongfully accused a Catholic priest of rape.
The “Prime Time Investigates” program was forced to apologize for the accusation lodged against Father Kevin Reynolds, and pay undisclosed damages for the libel. A director said that the charge was “one of the gravest editorial mistakes ever made.”
RTE said that the investigative series would be suspended while an independent report is being prepared to explain how the false charge was aired.
