Brooklyn Museum video to feature ants crawling over crucified Christ
November 11, 2011
The Brooklyn Museum--New York City’s second-largest art museum--is hosting an exhibit that includes David Wojnarowicz’s “A Fire in My Belly,” a video that features ants crawling over a crucifix.
“Nothing in the exhibition was meant to be offensive,” said the museum’s director after Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio asked for the removal of the video.
“Certainly we don’t think this would be tolerated if this was the image of the Prophet Muhammad or any other religious symbol,” said Msgr. Kieran Harrington, a spokesman for the Diocese of Brooklyn.
