Legionaries begin payments to Maciel abuse victims

The Legionaries of Christ have begun making financial payments to victims of sexual abuse by the order’s founder, the late Father Marcial Maciel.
The payments of $20,000 or more to several victims were authorized by a committee established to investigate the sex-abuse charges against Father Maciel, which had been denied for years.
