A controversial Australian priest has apparently stepped up the pressure to remain in active ministry, two years after he promised to resign.
Father Bob Maguire--a popular priest of the Melbourne archdiocese, whose eccentric approach has frequently raised eyebrows—resisted a call for his resignation in 2009 when he reached the age of 75, but agreed to step down as pastor in February 2012. But earlier this year “Father Bob” said that he had only made that promise under pressure, and did not want to leave his parish. Now supporters are deluging with Melbourne archdiocese with pleas to keep the unorthodox priest at work.
