Vatican spokesman discusses value of silence

October 17, 2011

In his weekly editorial, the director of the Holy See Press Office highlighted the value of silence, both for the new evangelization and for the fruitful reception of the word of God.

“Silence is the essential prerequisite for accepting and preparing to hear the Word; the sound of the Word becomes meaningful precisely because it is interspersed with moments of silence,” said Father Federico Lombardi. “While we inquire how to give wings to the ‘new evangelization’ and its messages, we should not forget that their efficacy arises from listening. Their foundation is silence, full of the reality of the life of God.”
