Monasteries are powerful reminders of Christian vocation, Pope says

Pope Benedict XVI met on November 20 with members of the Congregation for Religious, which had just concluded a plenary meeting devoted to discussion of monastic life. The Holy Father said that monasticism, practiced properly, is a constant "reminder of what is of essential and primary importance for all the baptized: seeking Christ and placing nothing before his love." Monasteries, he said, should "become oases of ascetic life, where the allure of the nuptial union with Christ is felt."
