Vatican Secretary of State faces nasty criticism, threats

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican Secretary of State, has received a series of vituperative personal messages and even a veiled death threat. Although the staff of the Secretariat of State dismisses the seriousness of the death threat, the level of personal animosity is remarkable, The Guardian argues, and points to intense conflicts within the Vatican bureaucracy.
