British riots show society has 'lost its Christianity,' bishop says
August 17, 2011
Recent rioting in Britain is a sign of a society that has “lost its Christianity,” said Bishop Arthur Roche of Leeds.
Speaking from Madrid, where he is leading a delegation of young Catholics at World Youth Day, Bishop Roche said that the young rioters in Britain are “really very unhappy, disenchanted… really in need of God.” He contrasted their alienation with what he saw around him, in the World Youth Day pilgrims “full of joy.”
