Orange diocese increases offer to buy for Crystal Cathedral
August 10, 2011
The Diocese of Orange, California has raised its bid to buy the Crystal Cathedral, as creditors have pressed the bankrupt Protestant owners to sell the building.
Last week spokesmen for the Garden Grove church, built by the noted televangelist televangelist Robert Schuller, announced that they would no longer accept offers to buy the building, preferring to rely on donations to rescue their ministry from bankruptcy. But creditors have demanded faster action.
The Orange diocese had originally offered $50 million for the massive structure, which holds 3,000 people. The new bid from the diocese is reportedly for over $53 million. At least two other potential buyers have made competitive offers.
