Colombian Church leaders: see abortion as a failure of policy

Catholic World News - August 08, 2011

Leaders of the major Christian denominations in Colombia have joined in a statement calling for defense of human life, including the lives of the unborn.

Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Methodist, and Evangelical leaders signed that statement, which affirms “the common purpose of favoring justice and peace in society, without any discrimination and effectively promoting the authentic rights of all Colombians, especially those most vulnerable.”

The statement endorses “social support for women,” to ease the poverty that prompts many needy women to obtain abortions. A healthy approach, the statement says, would recognize that abortion is “a definitive failure of public politics in favor of women and families.”
