India: Christian Dalits engage in 2-day hunger strike
July 26, 2011
Over 1,000 Christian and Muslim Dalits--formerly known as untouchables--have begun a two-day hunger strike in Delhi to protest a law that grants benefits to Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist Dalits but not to them.
Referring to one of India’s major political parties, Archbishop Vincent Concessao of Delhi said that “we have realized now that it is none other than Congress that has been a block in our struggle for justice. Those who are delaying justice are digging their own grave, and history has proved it right.”
