Vatican offers statistics on Church in Spain

Looking forward to Pope Benedict’s trip to Madrid for World Youth Day in August, the Vatican Information Service has published the latest statistics on the Church in Spain, showing a Catholic population of 42.5 million, or about 92% of Spain’s overall population.
There are 70 dioceses and other ecclesiastical jurisdictions in Spain, and 22,890 parishes, as of December 31, 2010. These latest figures show 126 bishops; 24,778 priests, 54,184 religious, and 3,126 seminarians. There are 5,535 Catholic schools at all educational levels, serving 1.5 million students.
