Vatican spokesman calls for objective discussion of Cloyne report
July 22, 2011
Two days after he responded at length to the recently published report on abuse in the Diocese of Cloyne, Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Holy See Press Office, has called for an objective discussion of the report.
“As already said, I confirm that the Holy See will respond in good time to the questions posed by the Irish Government regarding the Report on the diocese of Cloyne,” he said in a July 22 statement. “In any event, we hope the current discussion regarding these dramatic issues may proceed with due objectivity. In this way it can contribute to the cause we must all have most at heart: namely, the protection of children and young people and the renewal of a climate of trust and collaboration, both in the Church and society--something the Pope himself calls for in his Letter to the Catholics of Ireland.”
