Cardinal Bertone seen pushing for control of Italian Catholic hospitals
CWN - July 15, 2011
Vatican-watcher Sandro Magister reports that Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Secretary of State, has been anxious to consolidate the control of the Holy See over three leading Catholic hospitals: the Bambino Gesu, the Gemelli, and the San Raffaele.
But Cardinal Bertone faces resistance. The Italian bishops' conference now controls the San Raffaele, and Pope Benedict seems inclined to leave things as they stand. But the Secretary of State is still pushing for a Vatican takeover.
