Vatican newspaper laments eugenic amniocentesis

In a brief L’Osservatore Romano column, Giulia Galeotti notes the link between the eugenics movement and the use of amniocentesis to abort children diagnosed with disabilities.
“Eugenics represents a reality which for many is considered a medical and social conquest,” she writes. “In the last decades, we have returned in fact to a eugenic ideology rooted in the 18th century, albeit on new ground--that tied to technical and scientific capability.”
