BBC charged with glorifying assisted suicide
June 17, 2011
Pro-life groups in Britain have sharply criticized BBC for a documentary on assisted suicide, charging that the program was in effect a propaganda piece for euthanasia.
Care Not Killing, a group formed to fight acceptance of euthanasia, expressed fear that the program would generate “copycat suicides.” The group urged media outlets to avoid stories that sensationalize or glorify suicide, saying that such stories can have a profoundly unsettling effect on vulnerable people.
