Australian bishops call for Archbishop Sheen’s beatification
CWN - May 19, 2011
The president and vice president of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, joined by other Australian prelates, have lent their support to the beatification of Archbishop Fulton Sheen.
Bishop Daniel Jenky of Peoria will present the document summarizing Archbishop Sheen’s life and virtues to Pope Benedict on May 25.
Cardinal George Pell praised Archbishop Sheen for “harnessing the media to present Catholic teaching in a compelling and faithful way.”
“My life has been profoundly touched by his stressing of a daily Eucharistic holy hour, and I believe that the spiritual leadership which he has provided is worthy of closer examination,” Archbishop Denis Hart of Melbourne added. “Clearly evident was his loyalty to the Church, passionate love of God, and devotion to Mary, our Blessed Mother.”
