Pope to visit New York synagogue April 03, 2008

Pope Benedict XVI will visit a New York synagogue on April 18.

The Pope's visit to the Park East Synagogue, on the eve of the Passover observance, is a late addition to the itinerary for the papal trip. The Pope will deliver a major address at the UN the following day.

Rabbi Arthur Schneier, the leader of the Park East community-- which describes itself as a "modern Orthodox" congregation-- said that the papal visit is "a reaffirmation of Pope Benedict XVI's commitment to inter-religious dialogue and outreach to the Jewish community."
