Boston Catholics protest racy ad January 31, 2008
Catholic leaders in Boston have angrily protested a magazine advertisement that depicts nuns leering at a nude male model.
An ad for the Equinox Fitness Clubs, published in Boston magazine, shows models wearing nun's habits (and full make-up) in a studio drawing a male model. The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts blasted the ad as a display of "callous contempt for the sensibility of Catholics."
Spokesmen for both the Equinox Fitness Clubs and Boston magazine defended the advertisement, saying that it was a tasteful representation of the human form.
