New Hampshire diocese urges Catholic voters to support life December 14, 2007

As America's first presidential primary contest approaches, the Diocese of Manchester has asked New Hampshire's Catholic voters to be mindful of Church teachings, particularly those involving the sanctity of human life.

The diocese has announced plans to distribute 50,000 copies of a pamphlet entitled Conscience and Your Vote. While urging voters to consider a wide range of issues, the pamphlet indicates clearly that questions involving the dignity of human life and marriage must be considered paramount.

Manchester's Bishop John McCormack emphasized that the diocesan educational drive "does not endorse a candidate or a political party." Instead, he said, the pamphlet calls attention to the main themes deserving their attention. The bishop listed those themes: "the sacredness of life and the dignity of the human person; the importance of marriage and family; the value of exercising our rights and responsibilities; a preferential option for the poor and vulnerable; the dignity of workers; human solidarity; and care for all of God’s creation."
