Florida Abortion Consent Law Suspended July 03, 1997
WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (CWN) - Florida's new abortion consent law, which went into effect on July 1, was suspended by a state judge on Thursday who said it was vague and confusing.
Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Kathleen Kroll issued the restraining order against the "Women's Right-to-Know Act" that mandates women must be informed about the consequences of and alternatives to abortion. Her ruling only applies to Palm Beach County, but Florida officials said the law won't be enforced anywhere until its constitutional status is resolved.
The law requires abortionists in the state to inform women about the age and development of their unborn child and provide them with a state-published pamphlet suggesting abortion alternatives.
