Russian primate praises ecumenical work of Vatican envoy September 03, 2007
In a new gesture of friendship toward the Catholic Church, Russian Orthodox Patriarch Alexei II has sent a message of appreciation to the papal nuncio in Moscow, Archbishop Antonio Mennini, thanking the Italian prelate for his ecumenical work.
Patriarch Alexei's message, posted on the web site of the Moscow patriarchate, refers to the Vatican envoy's "reputation as a staunch advocate of good relations between the two states and between our churches." He added that relations between the Vatican and the Moscow patriarchate today are characterize by "mutual affection, openness, and trust."
The Patriarch's message came along with greetings and best wishes to Archbishop Mennini on his 60th birthday. The archbishop has been apostolic nuncio to Russia since November 2002.
