Italian nuns praying for papal letter to China June 26, 2007
More than 600 communities of cloistered nuns in Italy are praying for the Church in China and for the success of a message to Chinese Catholics soon to be released by Pope Benedict XVI.
Cardinal Ivan Dias, the prefect of the Congregation for Evangelization, has recruited Italian religious for the prayer campaign. In a letter to the participating communities, the cardinal wrote: "Let us pray for a warm welcome of the papal letter and that China may open to the Gospel and respect the religious freedom of all faithful...Almost all of the more than 100 Chinese bishops are in union with the Apostolic See and the number of priestly and religious vocations is growing."
