Pope's book auctioned for Polish paralysis victim May 31, 2007
The auction of of a Polish copy of Pope Benedict XVI’s new book Jesus of Nazareth has raised almost 23,000 Polish zloty (over $8,000) for a paralyzed man, Janusz Switaj.
In addition to the auction, organized by the book’s Polish distributor Publishing House M and the newspaper Dziennik, Publishing House M is donating one zloty from May sales of each copy of the Pope’s book to Switaj, who suffers from paralysis and had asked to be assisted in committing suicide. Following the outpouring of support, Switaj no longer desires to die.
