The Vatican has released a schedule of liturgical events at which Pope Benedict XVI will preside during the remainder of May and the month of June.

This coming week, from May 9 to 14, the Holy Father will make his first apostolic visit to the Western hemisphere, visiting Brazil to open the 5th general conference of the Latin American bishops' conference at the Marian shrine in Aparecida. No other major papal ceremonies are currently scheduled for the month.

In June, the Pope will preside on June 3 at the canonization of George Preca, Szymon of Lipnica, Charles of St. Andrew (ne Johannes Andreas Houben), and Marie Eugenie de Jesus (nee Anne-Eugenie Milleret de Brou), with the ceremonies taking place in St. Peter's Square.

On June 7, Pope Benedict will lead the traditional Eucharistic procession across the city of Rome for the feast of Corpus Christ. After an evening Mass in the basilica of St. John Lateran, the procession will lead to the basilica of St. Mary Major, concluding with Benediction there.

On Sunday, June 11, the Pope will make a visit to Assisi.

Finally, on June 29, the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, the Pope will preside at the annual ceremony in St. Peter's basilica in which the pallium-- the symbol of metropolitan authority-- is conferred on all the new archbishops appointed during the past year.
