Vatican, Bavaria sign new pact on education January 23, 2007
The Vatican has announced the signing of a new agreement with Bavaria, regulating the teaching of theology at Catholic faculties in the German free state. The agreement ensures that theological faculties at the universities of Bamberg and Passau will remain Catholic institutions.
The agreement, which updates a concordat dating from 1924, was signed on January 19 by Archbishop Erwin Josef Ender, the apostolic nuncio in Germany; and Bavarian minister-president Edmund Stoiber.
