In-flight papal greetings to Italy, Albania, Greece November 28, 2006
In telegrams that he sent to three heads of state as he flew to Turkey on November 28, Pope Benedict XVI stressed his commitment to ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue.
Following the usual custom for papal trips, the Holy Father sent his greetings to the heads of state of each country his plane passed on the route to Turkey. His telegrams went to Italy's President Giorgio Napolitano, Albania's Alfred Moisiu, and Karolos Papoulias of Greece.
In his message to Napolitano, sent immediately after his takeoff, the Pope emphasized the "moments of strong spirituality" that he planned to share with "brothers and sisters in the faith" during his ecumenical encounters in Turkey. To the Albanian and Greek leaders he sent his warm regards and his prayers for the welfare of the two nations.
