Rwandan president belatedly received baptismal certificate March 29, 2006

A Catholic bishop in Rwanda has surprised President Paul Kagame by handing him his Baptismal certificate, which he had never received as a child because his parents fled to Uganda in 1960 to escape political violence.

Bishop Smaragde Mbonyintege handed the certificate to Kagame after the Rwandan president attended the bishop's installation ceremony in the Kabgayi diocese

"Let me thank the bishop for publicly reminding (people) that I am a Christian," Kagame told the local New Times newspaper. The president congratulated Mbonyintege in his new appointment and pledged his support.
