Coptic leader sees harmony among Christians of Middle East June 10, 2005

The leader of Egypt's Coptic Christians says that "agreement and harmony reigns" in relations among the different Christian churches of the Middle East. But he worries that emigration is weakening the Christian presence in the region.

In an interview with the AsiaNews service, Pope Shenouda III ecumenical dialogue with the Catholic Church is stalled because of disagreements on papal primacy. But friendly relations continue, he said. Pope Shenouda voiced concern, however, about the "high flow of Eastern Christians toward the West." He said that he urges Christians not to leave their homes. And he was particularly outraged by the sale of church property in Jerusalem by the Greek Orthodox Patriarch Ireneos.
