Pope stresses family, marriage, Eucharist June 06, 2005
Pope Benedict XVI emphasized the importance of family life, founded on indissoluble marriage, as he met on June 4 with pilgrims from the Italian diocese of Verona. Noting that the Verona diocesan synod, which had just concluded, had discussed family life, the Holy Father said that Christians today should recognize the "urgent call to proclaim and bear witness to the Gospel of life and the family, in all its fullness." He observed with regret that "divorces and irregular unions have increased," and urged the faithful to counteract that trend.
The Pope reminded the group that the life of the Church flows from the Eucharist, and urged them to "attend ever more to the quality of Eucharistic celebrations, especially on Sundays." He told them that "only from this endless source of love can you have the necessary energy for your mission."
