Pope John Paul marks anniversary of Paul VI's death August 06, 2004
Pope John Paul II hailed his predecessor, Pope Paul VI, as he celebrated Mass on August 6 in his chapel at the papal summer residence in Castel Gandalfo.
The Holy Father remarked that the day-- which is celebrated in the Catholic Church as the feast of the Transfiguration-- is also the day of Pope Paul's death. “On the evening of Aug. 6, 1978, right in this house, he concluded his days on earth,” he said
Praising Paul VI as an "unforgettable pastor" who carried the burdens of his responsibility "with evangelical joy," Pope John Paul prayed that "the Church, today and tomoorrow, will know how to value his witness and his teaching."
