Website Review: International Fraternity of the Virgin Mary Untier of Knots Site on which this review was based: http://www.desatadora.com.ar/
While the title for Our Lady, "Untier of Knots", is not associated with an apparition, it refers to an ancient text of St. Ireneus in the late 2nd century. He wrote "the knot of Eve's disobedience was loosed by Mary's obedience." We see here the beginnings of the devotion to Our Lady, Untier of Knots.
The painting depicting Our Lady untying the knots of a white wedding ribbon was commissioned in the year 1700 by Fr. Hieronymus Ambrosius Langenmantel in thanksgiving for her intervention in his family.
This website is the web home of the International Fraternity of the Virgin Mary Untier of Knots, a lay association. They exist to spread devotion to the Virgin Mary under the title of “Untier of Knots” at national and international levels and to achieve the acceptance of this Marian devotion with the title “Untier of Knots” in the Litany of Loreto in addition to the ones that already exist with the approval of Vatican authorities.
This devotion is of special interest today because Pope Francis has been one of the chief promoters of this devotion. When Pope Francis, then Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was studying in Germany, he was stunned by a Bavarian painting of "Holy Mary, Our Lady Untier of Knots." He acquired a copy of the painting and brought it to Argentina and promoted devotion to Mary under this title.
