Catholic Recipe: Swiss Fritters

    INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 pound almonds, ground
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • pinch anise seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon white wine
  • hot vegetable oil 1/4 inch deep
  • sugar-cinnamon powder

DIRECTIONS

Combine flour, butter, almonds, sugar, anise seed, lemon rind, egg yolks, wine. Knead on floured board until firm dough results. Roll out on floured board. Cut with cookie cutter. Drop cut-outs into oil. Fry until golden brown. Sprinkle with sugar-cinnamon powder before serving. Serve hot.
